Here are some blogs and websites I stole ideas from and that inspire me:
Steph Ango made an amazing colour scheme called Flexoki that I am using for this website;
Wild Man Life is one of the best-looking websites I have ever visited. I really encourage you to open whatever stories you find on the home page and just scroll through;
Timothy Miller has a great tutorial on using Obsidian with 11ty;
Zach Holman's blog convinced me to embrace the right-side nav bar.
How this site is made:
It is hosted on Uberspace, a small German provider that gives you a real shell instead of a control panel;
It is built with Eleventy (11ty), so every page starts as plain markdown and HTML, without a database;
Colours are taken from Flexoki, the palette by Steph Ango;
The text asks for Inter with JetBrains Mono for code, falling back on whatever your system provides;
Posts are written in Obsidian before being turned into pages.
A few concepts I like and I do my best to embrace:
Short URLs;
Unlocking the commons, or "keep most of the content free".
People with nice features on their websites I have not stolen (yet):
Adam Schwartz collaborated with Edward Tufte, bringing some of his extraordinary experience to the web. I particularly love his font (that maybe I'll start using for this website someday) and his CSS;
Jason Velazquez. Open his blog and you'll understand why;
The notes from Jack Baty'sblog;
Matthew Howell has an amazing, uniquely generated piece of art every time you visit his blog;
I'd like to implement webmentions, if you have any recommendations on a convenient way to bridge them with 11ty, let me know.
